Hey everyone! Artist here, lmao~ I'm Airi (/flails around)! I'm sorta new to this whole otome game thing, so take it easy on me~ (maybe)~ i've been doing a lot of concept sketches for the characters and rearranging outfits and such, haha. A fun process. I'm not sure if showing those sketches would be good (yet) but so far, these are a few of the concept arts for the game. I'm sure many of you saw these lmfao since I post them everywhere, but I figured i'd poke in here to say hi!

What is Machina Jewel?
Machina Jewel is a visual novel being produced by garrus and seisai. It follows the example of Japanese otome games (Girl x Boy), but we've tried to break the mold as much as possible.

For this project, I, garrus, am the writer and coder, but I'm also the one who's done all of the GUIs and buttons and whatnot. Oh, I also choose and edit all of the music and sound effects. Basically, if it's not art-related, I'm probably the one responsible. ;D Any of the art you see that's related to Machina Jewel was done by seisai unless otherwise stated. She's the amazing artist for Machina Jewel~

Machina Jewel is running on the Ren'Py visual novel engine. I'm using jEdit for all my coding (with the occasional foray into Panic Coda and TextEdit when necessary) and Adobe Photoshop CS4 for anything graphics-related. I've also greatly relied on Audacity for music editing and CloudApp and Alfred for general sanity-keeping purposes--those last two are indispensable.

What is the game about?
The story of Machina Jewel centers on a girl named Charlene Lancaster (her first name can be changed by the player), who is the daughter of the Duke and Duchess of Northumberland. Her semi-charmed life is shattered when, on her 17th birthday, Charlene learns that her family has been cursed for the last 200+ years. All children with an odd birth order die on their 18th birthday--no exceptions. She is the first and only child in her immediate family, so seeing as how 1 is an odd number, Charlene is doomed to die in a year.

But not if she can help it.

Set in a made-up world based on a Victorian Steampunk setting, Machina Jewel follows Charlene as she attempts to break the curse on her family, help out her friends, and--of course--fall in love with one of four guys: Lucien, Tetsuyoshi, Azhar, or Alonzo. It's going to be one crazy year!

Who are the characters?
This game has 7 main characters. There is the heroine, Charlene, who is a 17-year-old girl born to a noble family. Her two best friends are Esperansa, the daughter of a perfumer, and Sabine, the daughter of a merchant. The four ~obtainable guys~ are Lucien, who is Charlene's tutor and also noble-born, Tetsuyoshi, a Japanese guy studying abroad, Azhar, an exiled Arabian prince, and Alonzo, the captain of a pirate ship. More details about them may be given later, but we're trying to keep things somewhat secretive until closer to the release. There's a bit more about the four guys in this progress blog post.
